The inspiration for the design of the Iraqi national team uniforms came from the Great Mosque of Samarra. The mosque has a minaret in a spiral architectural style that stands out in the landscape and had many influences on the Muslim art of the period. The shape of the minaret of the mosque was abstracted and became the pattern used for the team's home uniform.
The pattern was painted in the unique green color chosen for Iraq and originated from the flag. The repetition of the pattern and the play of color in it convey the feeling of the natural richness and vegetation that exist around the rivers of the Fars and Tigris, which are the main motifs of the uniforms and the team's symbol.
In addition, the sleeves of the uniforms were painted one in black with a white stripe and the other in red with a white stripe, corresponding to the two rivers in the logo.
