The emblem design draws from Iraq’s rich history and natural heritage. Its overall shape is inspired by the Ishtar Gate, one of ancient Babylon’s most iconic structures.
At the center are abstracted representations of the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, symbolizing the team’s nickname, “The Lions of the Two Rivers.” The rivers are rendered as diverging striped elements in the colors of the Iraqi flag, evoking their role as the nation’s lifeblood.
The emblem also includes the team’s name in both Arabic and English, reflecting Iraq’s cultural identity and international presence.
The design of the Iraqi national team’s home uniform is inspired by the Great Mosque of Samarra, specifically its iconic spiral minaret. This architectural form was abstracted into a repeating pattern that appears across the jersey.
The pattern is rendered in a distinctive shade of green drawn from the Iraqi flag, evoking the lush vegetation surrounding the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers - the key motifs of both the kit and the team’s emblem.
The sleeves add symbolic contrast: one is black with a white stripe, the other red with a white stripe representing the two rivers as depicted in the logo.
